Dr. Tamara A. Sutherland of Pediatric Partners of Virginia/Associates in Pediatrics has been reviewed and approved by VA Top Docs based on merit for 2025. Dr. Sutherland earned her medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine in 2000 and completed her pediatric internship and residency at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has been recognized for her outstanding commitment to continuing medical education and pediatric excellence.
Her clinical interests include newborn care, asthma, ADHD, healthy weight management, and overall wellness. Dr. Sutherland is especially honored to care for children through every stage of development—from a baby’s first checkup to the unique needs of adolescents—partnering with families to support lifelong health.
Beyond the exam room, Dr. Sutherland is a passionate advocate for health and wellness in the community. A dedicated runner, she has completed two marathons annually since 2010 and has qualified for and completed the Boston Marathon every year since 2012. She is also an active member of the Shady Grove YMCA, where she served on the Board of Management, chaired the Healthy Living Committee, and contributed to the Executive Committee—furthering initiatives to promote fitness and nutrition locally.
Her contributions extend to broader healthcare leadership as well. Dr. Sutherland serves on the board of the Virginia Children’s Care Network and was the inaugural chair of a key committee at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond. She has been recognized multiple times in Richmond Magazine’s Top Docs issue and continues to be honored across Virginia for her exceptional pediatric care.
Outside of her professional work, Dr. Sutherland enjoys reading, traveling, teaching, and spending time outdoors. She cherishes life with her husband, two children, and their dogs—embracing the joyful, busy rhythm of family life with the same energy and heart she brings to her practice.
