Dr. Shareef later earned the academic rank of Professor at the Flaum Eye Institute, University of Rochester School of Medicine, and most recently held the position of Professor and Director of the Glaucoma Service at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Shareef specializes in treating glaucoma and cataracts using both traditional and newer, less invasive surgical techniques. He performs everything from routine procedures to more complex eye surgeries, including repairing injuries to the iris and other delicate parts of the eye.
He has received numerous honors for his clinical innovation, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Achievement Award, the American Glaucoma Society Surgical Award (2013), and the ASCRS Ray of Hope Award (2018) for excellence in surgical education and complication management.
A pioneer in MIGS, Dr. Shareef has been an early adopter of these techniques since 2012 and serves as a Senior Instructor for a longstanding instructional course at the AAO’s annual meeting. He is a sought-after speaker, moderator, and surgical instructor at national and international conferences, where he trains ophthalmologists in the latest surgical advancements.
